About Me

Hello—I’m Aayush Bista, a passionate Electrical Engineer, researcher, designer, and consultant dedicated to advancing energy-efficient lighting systems.

My core focus lies in lighting design and control systems, particularly for cultural and heritage sites.   • PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (Aug 2025 – PRESENT)
  • Master of Research in Electrical Engineering, Kathmandu University (Apr 2022)

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical & Electronics, Kathmandu University (2018), with a semester abroad at Frederick University, Cyprus (2017). 

  • Formerly served as Lecturer at Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Kathmandu University (Feb 2024 – June 2025)
  • Formerly served as Project Manager at MODEv, Technical Training Center, Kathmandu University (Feb 2023- December 2024, Funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway through Energize Nepal)
  • Formerly served as Research Engineer and Research Associate at Kathmandu University’s Center for Electric Power Engineering and PBL SA (2019–2024)

Research & Publications

I’ve authored and co-authored over 10 scientific papers, covering topics such as:

  • LED lighting optimization for Nepalese heritage architecture

  • Integration of daylight and electric lighting in commercial buildings

  • Lighting control strategies for smart buildings and energy efficiency
    My work has been featured in international conferences—including IEEE LS18 (Mumbai), CIE Midterm Meeting (Malaysia), and SEGT (Thailand) .

Projects & Industry Leadership

  • Leading the MODEv Project, funded by the Norwegian MFA through EnergizeNepal, aiming to convert IC-engine vehicles to electric vehicles in collaboration with KU, Hydrolab Nepal, NTNU, and SINTEF .

  • Founder of Bista Brothers Engineering Company Pvt. Ltd., where I’m spearheading the development of Urja Meter, an app-based system for energy monitoring and smart building management. 

Consulting & Design Services

Through my consultancy, I deliver:

  • Electrical and lighting design

  • Home automation and BMS solutions

  • DIALux Evo simulations and on-site installations for temples and historic structures across Nepal
